How 50 Cards Could Change Your Life
Parenting is hard. Like, really hard. Especially if you had a child struggling with worries and fears.
I just want to let you know that I feel you. This year was tough on all of us. Whether your kids struggled with their emotions before the pandemic started, or developed their struggles somewhere along the way, I know how utterly helpless you felt. I know how heartbreaking it was to watch your children struggle with managing their emotions, the isolation, and the fear. Your kids may have experienced traumas this year like unexpectedly losing a loved one or feeling the overwhelming sadness due to not being able to be physically interacting with their friends, family, teachers, and community. I know these things because we experienced them too.
It's hard. I'm going to keep saying it because I don't think any of us are prepared for our children to struggle with worries and fears. At one point or another, you may have felt like you weren't capable of helping your child figure all this out. I know I did.
That's why I want to introduce you to SUNCards.
SUNCards were developed by Eva, a 10 year old girl. Her goal was to help children like her to manage their worries and fears. Each card says something helpful to help a child get through a stressful situation.
Sometimes we don't give kids enough credit for all they go through. As parents, we see our fair share of stressors every day and romanticize the “carefree” life of a kid. But being a kid has a whole host of stress that is very real, especially for them.
Eva wanted to create a way for kids to feel better about themselves, and to help them learn how to be more in control of their emotions. So she developed a deck of cards that use evidence based strategies like cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, positive psychology, and random acts of kindness to help kids manage their anxiety. The concept is simple, yet effective.
SUNCards help your child learn:
- Breathing Techniques
- Positive Affirmations
- Distraction Techniques
- and more
These tools will give them back the control of their situations. For Eva, that made all the difference. Once she was able to feel in control, she was able to better get her anxiety under control.
So if you want to help your child with their worries and fears, but don't know where to start try this:
- Grab a deck of SUNCards
- Talk to your child and explain that these were developed by another kid who totally understands where he or she is coming from
- Encourage your child to practice with these cards once or twice a day, so that when they start to spin they will have the tools they need to regain that control.
Our SUNCards have been used by families at home, in classrooms, and even in therapist offices. Kids love the lovable monsters and fun colors. But what really hits home, is the fact that they were invented by another kid just like them. It gives them hope. It gives them confidence. It gives them the power to choose a positive mindset.
And I've never been so proud of my kid!

P.S.- Did you know that for every deck purchased, Eva sets aside another deck to be donated to an organization that helps at-risk children. So you'll not only be helping your own kids by buying a deck, but you'll be helping others as well.
